So, you might have noticed that the web page address here has changed. There are a lot of changes afoot, with the main one being, crafting my Art business & OT practice & personal artworks; all together into one little happy, cohesive nutshell. Soul Song Creating is a name that came up for me whilst on a 2 hour drive with my boys in the car, up to visit my parents last month. I am not sure whether it’s the best thing however, that it’s when I’m driving that my creative mind wanders and comes up with inspired nuggets of truth in my life and FOR my life direction!
Playing with the essence of all of my passions in life…art, helping others as a practicing OT, self exploration & personal growth & insight; I wanted to come up with the best words to describe my morphing business and offerings.
To break it down ~
‘Soul’ was the first word of choice. It represents my personal journey and the journey of my clients/patients; as well as the exquisite journey into finding & knowing oneself that is gifted when creating.
‘Song’ came up because of a lot of reasons. I LOVE listening to music when I create. Music shapes the art I create. It opens up your heart, which then opens the conduit to the mind and soul. It evokes and allows the processing, expression and connection of our emotions. The word ‘Song’ also came up because of a piece I recently painted called, ‘Soul Song Sisters’…a celebration of friendship and honouring between women and the sacredness of the healing effect of authentic feminine connection. Song also came up because of my affinity with Indigenous Australians and my deep respect for their culture, their knowing, the complexity of their tribal laws, culture and relationship and for their spiritual connection with soul and earth. Stories also get told in songs and there is an immense need for people to tell their stories…for healing, for understanding, for growth.
‘Creating’ expresses the ability we all have but is a part of us we are often shut off from. If we are to facilitate wellness in ourselves and others, not only do we need to nurture our bodies and spiritual needs, but by actively participating in creative acts; we nurture our mind, heart & soul. Creativity short circuits our ego mind…it gets beyond it, to what is really beneath. We could live our entire lives without ever really knowing what is beyond our ego mind/filter. Sometimes life events/trauma can jolt us out of the ego mind and force us to take care of our mind~heart~soul health. If this does occur, creating/art~making can be a valuable tool in processing the trauma and healing from it. But perhaps even more importantly, creating/art~making, can give us a preventative approach to wellness. How can it do this? Creating/art~making allows us to de-stress by subtly processing our stream of consciousness thoughts through art journaling. It can help us externalise our anxieties, worries & neuroses. It can act as a problem solver by helping us to activate our often, dormant right brain to come up with lateral thinking and inspired ideas…for living our lives, our relationships and in our work lives. It builds our inspired idea’s~creativity muscle. There is a certain wholeness that envelopes a person, when they are committed to daily creative experience, doing and being.
My intention was to jump on here and write out a quick blog post and share the video I uploaded onto Facebook this morning. But alas! As always…I talk too much! 🙂
I’ll just ramble on for a wee bit longer…
Because my youngest is now happily settled at school full-time and I have the time to spend developing my Art/Art business & OT practice. I intend to look at not only rebranding but really get out there into the world, so many of the idea’s I have. My unsettled knowingness, has been pricking at my mind as I go about my days. It tells me, I am not yet telling my full story…not yet fully living it. I really want and need to fully live it and I want you to fully know, share (if you want to) and live your full story also.
I have one more quick little story to tell you!
I recently listened to several speakers talking online as part of a summit. One of the speakers, Emilie Wapnick, caught my attention. She posed the term ‘multipotentialite’. I loved it straight away as it really resonated with me. Emilie talks of ‘polymath people’ or ‘scanners’ or ‘renaissance soul multipassionites’, such as Leonardo Da Vinci. The person who kind of doesn’t just fit into one speciality. The person who has multi specialities. Those who ’embrace the plurality in their lives’. I THINK I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE! Perhaps you are too!?
Well, rather than focus on one at the expense of and giving up of another passion; multipotenialites, use their creativity to harness and bring together ALL of their passions.
* cue appropriate music to these words >> I BELONG! I BELONG! lol! I’m a MULTIPOTENTIALITE!
I plan to explore this a bit more in a future post, but for now, I will leave you with my Facebook Art Page video I uploaded this morning…
